SPAA NEWSROOM
2020 SHINE Mural Festival - Artist: Alex Yanes

Following the aftermath of the recent hurricanes, many in the arts community have been left with damaged homes, studios, galleries, classrooms, materials, and more.

We invite you to read the stories of our local art community members who have been deeply impacted by Hurricane Helene and Milton. Your support, in any form, can make a real difference in helping them rebuild. Whether it's sharing their stories, purchasing their work, or donating, every contribution helps. Let’s come together to support our creative community in this time of need.

If you are an artist in need of support following Hurricane Helene, visit our page for arts recovery resources and share your story with us at [email protected].

Ari Robinson

“I have been a local artist in St. Pete for several years now and my family (me, my husband, son 4, and daughter 1) just lost everything as well as both of our cars in the recent Hurricane Helene.  My studio was in our detached garage where I kept my laser (which cost me thousands - saved up for this for years). There was about 3 ft of water that was in my studio space.”

Ari is seeking support to rebuild her business and home, and is offering to create new work for sale to help fund a new laser and essentials for her children. You can view Ari’s work here. For inquiries or to offer support, you can contact Ari at [email protected].

Gulf Beaches Elementary and Madeira Beach Fundamental

Cleanup at Madeira Beach Fundamental K-8

Gulf Beaches Elementary and Madeira Beach Fundamental were severely impacted by the Hurricane with repairs expected to take several months. Both schools have been relocated and will share their school days at the campus of another school with some adjusted school hours (Learn more).

Arts programs at these schools are in need of replacement materials to help ensure students can continue to have a well-rounded education in the arts despite these severe disruptions to their learning environment. If you are able to help these schools with any of the items below please contact [email protected]

Elementary Performing Arts Items needed:

Merritt Horan Capurro

"I lost about 3k in business goods from a brand new saw and Embroidery machine to hand painted shoes and my original authenticity certificates. I also lost my a/c, washer/dryer, water heater and fridge contents which will all need replacement, as I rent from my dad and he also list his entire home of 30+years. I'm just temporarily living at my mom's RV until it's livable, meanwhile my sons entire school was effected (Gulf Beaches) so we are taking him to a new temporary school. My business has been effected because I do 2 monthly events at bellwether Beach Resort. They are closed indefinitely for repairs. I'm swimming in sadness and not sure where to ask for help".

You can contact Merritt at [email protected].
