The full roster of artists won’t be unveiled until mid-September, but the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance has released the names of the six bay area artists who’ll paint during the 2023 SHINE Mural Festival, Oct. 13-22.
Fabstraq, Michael Vasquez, Sarah Sheppard, Chris Dyer, Artist Jones and Rhys Meatyard will create murals downtown during what has become the city’s s signature art event. Now in its ninth year, SHINE will add a total of 14 new murals throughout the art districts, plus a series of street art-related events, tours and “Bright Spot” community projects.
During a Thursday night event held at the Dali Museum, festival director Jenee Priebe announced that SHINE had signed its first two-year title sponsor: The developers behind the 88-residence condominium tower Reflection St. Pete. The 18-story facility adjacent to Mirror Lake is currently under construction, and is scheduled to debut in 2024.
“This partnership marks an important milestone for SHINE as we move toward plans for the 10th
anniversary event,” Priebe said in a prepared statement. “Reflection St. Pete’s contribution serves as a model for thoughtful partnerships as the art community strives to maintain the character and uniqueness of St. Pete in the midst of significant growth. Their support will allow us to create more than 25 murals over the next two years.”
SHINE artists will create a three-story mural on the façade of Reflections during the 10th anniversary year.
