SUBMISSION NOTICE - American Stage Theatre Company, Tampa Bay's most award-winning professional theatre, is accepting Non-Equity submissions for their 38th annual School Tour Production of Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical.

Seeking 4 actors of any gender of all ethnicities encouraged to submit. Actors must be available 10am-5pm Mondays-Fridays, January 5-23 for rehearsals, and from 6:30am to 4:30pm Mondays-Fridays from January 26 through March 13 – with select added performances outside of these times possible (with advance notice and additional pay) through May.

Actor Stipend: $550/week, 1 Actor/SM $650 per week

Show Description:

Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical follows 8-year-old Lily Polkadot who just moved to the “Squares Only” small town of Rockaway. As the first Polkadot in an all Square school, Lily faces an almost impossible task of gaining acceptance from her peers. From daily bullying to being othered, Lily’s quest seems hopeless until she meets Sky, a shy Square boy whose curiosity for her unique polkadot skin blooms into an unexpected pal-ship. Inspired by actual events, Polkadots serves as a colorful history lesson for children, reminding them that our individual differences make us awesome, not outcasts. Polkadots is recommended for ages 5 and up!

Characters:

Lily Polkadots (Black or Indigenous Person of Color) Lily is the sunlight in the midst of a storm; smart, charming and strong willed; she has the task of being the first of her kind ever integrated into a school of all Squares.

Sky Square (Any Ethnicity) video games illuminate his imagination; he’s anxiously shy, friendly, quirky and curious,; younger brother to Penelope Square and admirer of Lili Polkadots

Penelope Square (Any Ethnicity) A bully; bratty, loud and entitled; the world revolves around Penelope and we just happen to be living in it; older sister to Sky Square.

Mrs. Square/Mama Square (Any Ethnicity) Mrs. Square is the teacher at Rockaway Elementary responsible for integrating Polkadots and Squares, the disciplinarian, conflicted yet gentle and loving all all in the same. Mama Square overbearing and set in her ways.
