The West Tampa CRA is looking for one artist or artist team to design and install 3 street intersection murals.

This is a call for Artists who:

  • Have an interest in creating street intersection murals in West Tampa
  • Recognize the value of celebrating the diversity of West Tampa
  • Have experience in street or asphalt murals
  • Are visual artists that can mix their own specific colors from primary traffic paint
  • Can agree to a specific painting schedule

Budget Range: up to $30,000.00.

About: The West Tampa Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) invites artists to apply to be considered for the creation of 3 street intersection murals. These three murals will be painted at 3 separate times. The road will be closed by the City of Tampa and will have police on site for the road closure. The road closures will take place over the weekend. Schedule is tentative. Road closures and Police fee will not come out of artist budget. Possible community involvement during the painting days so the artist will need to plan accordingly for this. Each area will need to be painted in the allotted road closure timeframe. Each intersection has been recently refinished and is ready for paint.

Eligibility /Qualifications: This opportunity is open to all artists residing in Tampa Florida both emerging and established artists, who have completed projects for private clients, public agencies or for grassroots/community projects. Public street mural art experience is required for this call. Artist must use high quality traffic paint. Preferable paint to use is Gorilla Acrylic Zone Marking Traffic Paint. This paint only comes in primary colors so the artist will need to be knowledgeable in mixing their own paint. Artists once selected will be compensated for their designs.

  • Main St and Albany St
  • Main St and Fremont St
  • Rome Ave and Fig St

These murals will be contained within the crosswalk. Once selected: If the artist proposal utilizes the crosswalk that may be considered. 

Selection Process:

Information and materials submitted in response to this RFQ will be evaluated by a committee comprised of arts professionals, and West Tampa CRA designees to determine eligibility to apply for specific opportunities.

The Application Process:

Artists are being asked to submit images of past works and resumes to be reviewed by a committee. No new designs are to be submitted at this time. Deliverables by artist(s) will be graphic image only. Please do include pictures of your self in the images of your artwork. This should be artwork only otherwise these images will be disqualified.

A complete application consists of the following items:

1. Digital Images of past work High Res is preferred:

• Please include up to 10 images (no fewer than 6) of completed art works or projects. Please have each

image no larger than 3MB. Photos of previously completed Ground or Street Murals needed.

2. Professional Résumé (PDF):

• Maximum length two (2) pages.

• Please be sure to clearly state name, address, email, phone, and website/social media on résumé.
