Funky As A Monkey Art Studio & The Creative Life Project new art exhibit: “Pawprints: Dog Days of Summer” featuring artists: Rolando Bardaji, Tim Gibbons and Gabriela Valencia Pinellas Ale Works, PAW ART PULSE announces the latest exhibit Pawprints: Dog Days of Summer, in celebration of  the rise of the Dog Star and summer heat! Our newest artist, Gabriella Valencia is not new to art. Her studio, Gabriela Valencia Art Studio and Gallery, is located in St. Pete Beach. Gabriela is an international artist from Ecuador, living in the St. Petersburg area for the last nine years. Her art reflects a  love of life experiences, Florida themes, and the world of dogs. Rolando Bardaji is another stellar artist working in acrylics to produce his beautiful abstracts tinged with political overtures and important aspects of his interesting life. Rolando was born in Havana, Cuba until he and his family emigrated to the United States in 1960 when he was ten years old. Rolando earned his BA of Fine Arts at Hunter College, NY.. Rolando states, “I follow the tradition of socially conscious artists of Western Art, Robert Motherwell, Rauschenberg, Edward Hopper and Francisco Goya.”  Rolando’s abstract art is an interwoven mix of his vivid imagination, form and is reminiscent of musical lines and scores.  The darkness of his work can also be compared to Goya, one of Rolando’s favorite artists. Rolando currently lives in Tampa where he has exhibited his art extensively and has a large following of fellow artists and friends. Tim Gibbons is a well-known artist and art instructor, having taught in Tampa for over 40 years. He also curates the art galleries at local restaurants and breweries in downtown Tampa and St. Petersburg. This exhibit features Tim’s most recent work.  Humor, sci-fi, cosmology and his love of Aztec culture is infused into the exhibit, portrayed adroitly on his fresh canvases. Tim’s never-ending imagination, his prolific talent and his constantly evolving new art is combined in this exploding display of his most recent work. [less-]

Join us as we celebrate Jamaica's 55th anniversary of Independence with Reggae Legend, Beres Hammond! Known for his distinctive brand of "lover's rock", this will be Hammond's debut performance at the historic Capitol Theatre. Over the course of a 30-year career, Hammond has poured his smoky-sweet voice—an instrument of subtlety and power reminiscent of an Otis Redding or a Teddy Pendergrass—over every kind of riddim track. He earned a GRAMMY® nomination for his 2012 chart-topping album One Love, One Life. His other international hits include Tempted to Touch, Rockaway and They Gonna Talk. Considered Jamaica’s greatest practicing singer/songwriter, anyone who has listened to his CDs or experienced the fervor elicited by his live performances would undoubtedly agree with that top-ranking assessment. Beres’s sophisticated musical taste is well suited to translate easily across cultural divides, yet the international reggae massive has remained his most loyal fan base. He did collaborate on Maxi Priest’s first American hit, How Can We Ease The Pain, in 1990. A brief encounter with Elektra Records in 1994 yielded the excellent but under-appreciated album In Control with its R&B-flavored single No Disturb Sign. [less-]

On tour in support of his new album So You Wannabe An Outlaw, Grammy Award-winner Steve Earle and The Dukes make a stop at the Capitol Theatre! So You Wannabe an Outlaw is an homage to outlaw music and dedicated to Waylon Jennings, who died in 2002. “I was out to unapologetically ‘channel’ Waylon as best as I could.” says Earle. “This record was all about me on the back pick-up of a Fender Telecaster on an entire record for the first time in my life. The singing part of it is a little different. I certainly don’t sound like Waylon Jennings.” Earle is a country rebel with a rock and roll attitude. His unwillingness to conform to the rules of Nashville or rock & roll meant that he never broke through into either genre's mainstream. Instead, he cultivated a dedicated cult following and racked up critical acclaim for songs such as Copperhead Road and Fearless Heart. [less-]

[less-]
