Red Cloud Indian Arts Gallery stands as the premier location representing Authentic Indian Arts in the city. To mark this special anniversary of 30 years the gallery is proud to host two events. Opening night is November 10th at 6:00PM The new show by D YaeL Kelley “Spiral Focus – the calm in the chaos” will preview 15 new works from the artist, focused on her current expressionist exploration. YaeL Kelley relates: “These new works are feelings in motion, not frozen, but capturing our continuously unfolding and changing reality” The artist continues to be inspired by stones and found objects yet for this show it is the wind, light and how time impacts her understanding of the now which inspire these new pieces. Also opening night at 7PM the new play White Raven Speaks- Second Horizon by playwright Elizabeth Brincklow will be performed under the Stars just outside the gallery. This 15 minute play reading features: Angela Bond, Eugenie Bondurant and Caroline Howard. Iconic costumes from ―a galaxy far, far away are presented in the Smithsonian traveling exhibition, Star Wars™ and the Power of Costume. The exhibition will be on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, Florida. Culled from the collection of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Star Wars and the Power of Costume is a partnership of the museum, the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and Lucasfilm. George Lucas imagined and created a fantastical world filled with dynamic characters who told the timeless story of the hero’s journey. The costumes shaped the identities of these now famous characters, from the menacing black mask of Darth Vader and the gilded suit of C-3PO, to the lavish royal gowns of Queen Amidala and a bikini worn by Princess Leia. Presenting more than 60 of the finest hand-crafted costumes from the first seven films in the Star Wars series, the exhibition uncovers the challenges, the intricate processes and the remarkable artistry of Lucas, the concept artists and costume designers. The costumes reflect an eclectic mix of cultural, historical and mythical sources that add rich texture to the story. [less-]

DARKO's DEN is the latest exhibit by a fresh artist at Pinellas Ale Works, 1962 First Avenue South, St. Petersburg, October 27-December 15. Creative Loafing has called their performances “joyous, uplifting and beautifully sung” and presented them with a Best of the Bay award for “Best Voices Raised Together in Song.” Their debut at the Palladium Theater last spring was almost sold out so getting tickets early is recommended.

DARKO is a renaissance man: an artist, world traveler and Senior Airman and weather tracker stationed in Tampa.  His exhibit, Darko's Den", is an exhibit featuring his latest work in which he "captures dynamic vistas inspired  by cognitive images translated into creativity." His practiced techniques convey a sharp, controlled and  detailed imagery which mimic his every life, full of danger, change and exploding atmospheres which splash onto his canvases  through his confidence and bravado. Darko has taken time off from his very busy hurricane tracking season to create and exhibit his art at Pinellas Ale Works, October 27-December 15. Opening reception meet and greet the artist is Friday, October 27, from 7 pm to closing time at PAW.  FREE and open to the public. [less-]

Zimiles is the stepson of a Holocaust Survivor and felt compelled as an artist to deal with the subject. The Tampa Bay area has a new community institution – the One City Chorus! This exciting chorus of over 100 singers was founded with the belief that singing in a group builds community and leads to a better understanding among people of differing races, cultures, creeds and communities. Their songs of social justice, civil rights, diversity and equality are just what is needed in these turbulent times. Creative Loafing has called their performances “joyous, uplifting and beautifully sung” and presented them with a Best of the Bay award for “Best Voices Raised Together in Song.” Their debut at the Palladium Theater last spring was almost sold out so getting tickets early is recommended. They’ll be joined by St. Pete’s equally exuberant Tribal-Disco-Gypsy-Bluegrass band, the uber-popular Urban Gypsies of Florida. Don’t miss this exciting evening! [less-]
