The Florida Holocaust Museum is thrilled to announce the blockbuster exhibition Operation Finale: The Capture & Trial of Adolf Eichmann opens to the public on February 10, 2018!

Operation Finale: The Capture & Trial of Adolf Eichmann is the first exhibition in the United States to fully document the pursuit, capture, extradition, and trial of a Nazi war criminal. The Florida Holocaust Museum is proud to present this blockbuster exhibition, co-produced by The Mossad – Israel Secret Intelligence Service; Beit Hatfutsot – The Museum of the Jewish People, Tel Aviv, Israel; and the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, Cleveland, Ohio.

Fifty-six years ago, Adolf Eichmann, who had been in charge of transporting millions of European Jews to death camps, sat in a courtroom for a trial that would be among the first in history to be completely televised. The trial captivated millions of people across the globe and it was the first time that many of them learned the details of the Holocaust.

The dramatic story behind one of the world’s most notorious escaped Nazi war criminals being brought to justice is told using recently declassified artifacts from the Mossad, Israel’s Secret Intelligence Service. The exhibition includes objects and images made available outside the country for the first time – original 1960s-era artifacts, photographs, Telly Award winning films and audio, as well as contemporary design elements and interactive features, to tell a story of espionage, intrigue and, ultimately, justice served.

Also included in the exhibition is one of the most iconic objects of the century – the bulletproof glass booth in which the accused sat as the courtroom drama was broadcast around the globe.

During World War II, Eichmann was the key functionary in the Nazis’ attempt to annihilate all of Europe’s 11 million Jews. After the war he disappeared, but his crimes made him a wanted man. Operation Finale – the code name of Israel’s effort to find him – reveals exactly how Mossad agents located Eichmann in his hiding place in South America, and how they abducted and smuggled him safely to Israel to stand trial.

Career Mossad agent Avner Avraham curated the espionage artifacts featured in Operation Finale: The Capture & Trial of Adolf Eichmann. This exhibition is the first time that the recently declassified Mossad materials have been seen outside of Israel.

Operation Finale: The Capture & Trial of Adolf Eichmann opens to the public on February 10, 2018 and is on display through July 15, 2018 at The Florida Holocaust Museum.

The purpose of Fresh Squeezed is to encourage, support and celebrate artists who fly under the radar, who haven’t had their big break, whose work may not be typical gallery or museum fare. For Fresh Squeezed, we encourage artists to break boundaries, to think of ways their work can create a dialog in our community, our region, in our wild, wacky, wonderful state

THE PRODUCERS

By Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan

American Stage in the Park presented by Bank of America

April 18 through May 13

Directed by Rye Mullis

Starring Matthew McGee (HAIRSPRAY)

Performed at Demens Landing Park

American Stage in the Park brings Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy to Demens Landing! Winner of a record twelve Tony Awards including ‘Best Musical’, The Producers sets the standard for modern, outrageous humor. The story centers around down-on-his-luck Broadway producer, Max Bialystock, and his mild-mannered accountant, Leo Bloom, who come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, bilking their backers out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!”

ABOUT AMERICAN STAGE IN THE PARK American Stage in the Park has been a celebrated Tampa Bay tradition for over thirty-years. Established in 1986, American Stage in the Park was first known for producing Shakespeare to audiences in and around Tampa Bay.  American Stage in the Park expanded to included comedies and modern musicals presented under the stars each spring at Demens Landing Park in St. Pete.

PLEASE NOTE: No alcohol or pets are allowed into the park, by City Ordinance. Food and beverages (both alcoholic and non) are available at concessions.

Studio 1212 Art Gallery, founded in 1970 by former students of William Pachner, will open it's annual Black and White show, "Black, White, Big, Bold!" on Sunday, April 29th from 1 to 4 p.m. This show is a posthumous tribute to Mr. Pachner, who passed away on November 17, 2017 at the age of 102. Born on April 17, 1915 in Czechoslovakia, he studied art in Vienna and worked as an illustrator in Prague before coming to the United States in 1939, on the eve of World War II.  When he learned in 1945 that all members of his family had been killed during the Holocaust, he quit his commercial career and focused on abstract paintings, to express what he felt. Having lost sight in one eye when he was a child, his paintings were vivid to counterbalance his lack of depth perception. His colorful landscapes have been displayed at various Tampa Bay venues, including the Holocaust Museum.

He mentored budding artists while residing in the bay area.  Some of those artists founded Studio 1212 Art Gallery.  Later in his career, when he lost most of the sight in his one good eye, he began painting in black and white.  Studio 1212 remains dedicated to him by hosting an annual Black and White show to honor his life, his hardships and his struggle to create art when colors ceased to be visible to him. This annual dedication features oil, watercolor, acrylic, alcohol ink, pastel and collage assemblage works by 20 local member artists.

Lea and Mira tells the story of two elderly Polish Jewish women living in Argentina. As children, they were taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where they were imprisoned for two years. Having survived such horror was, in their own words, a miracle. The movie depicts the thoughts of these two Holocaust Survivors who, in the twilight of their lives, transmit their wisdom, their resilience, and their way of looking at the world and life after trauma and horror. This film pays homage to life and its power to triumph over death, even in the face of terrible suffering.

Following the film, local Holocaust Survivor Pieter Kohnstam will share his personal experience of escaping Nazi Europe to Argentina. Pieter was born in the Netherlands and lived in the same building as Anne Frank and her family. When his family was scheduled for transport to Theresienstadt, they fled Amsterdam and arrived in Argentina one year later in 1943.

To reserve your seat, call 727.820.0100 ext. 301. Free and open to the public.

[more+]
