Peter Bates has been a documentary photographer for over forty years. For his current series, he locates colorful bodegas and convenience stores. Some have hand-lettered signs like the Lakeview Market in St. Petersburg. All look striking at twilight, the time in which he photographs. He travels all over Florida in search of bodegas. He discovered Tienda El Quetzal by exploring West Main Street in Immokalee. Bates uses the high dynamic range (HDR) photographic process to enhance the color and impact of these buildings. In addition, he films the owners to relate compelling details about their lives and businesses and photographs them in their stores. “I find the lives of these individuals every bit as important as the highly individualized buildings they work in.” [less-]

By Marco Ramirez Directed by Lisa Tricomi Featuring Kim Sullivan (Seen in all 10 of American Stage's August Wilson Productions) WE THE PEOPLE…WILL FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTFUL PLACE From an award-winning writer on the hit TV series Orange Is the New Black comes one of America’s hottest new plays. Jay “The Sport” Jackson wants nothing more than to prove he’s the best boxer in the world. However, in the Jim Crow era, his chances are as good as knocked out. When a boxing promoter hatches a plan for “the fight of the century,” The Sport just might land a place in the ring with the reigning white heavyweight champion. But is the country ready for this face off? Through the sights and sounds of the early 20th-century boxing circuit, The Royale packs a punch that will leave you breathless. Alternative rock band, Toad the Wet Sprocket featuring Glen Phillips on lead vocals and guitar, Dean Dinning on bass and vocals, Todd Nichols on lead guitar and vocals and Randy Guss on the drums are making their way to Clearwater for their debut at the historic, Capitol Theatre! While most will feel the comforting familiarity of the Billboard-charting hits, Walk on the Ocean, All I Want, Something’s Always Wrong, and Fall Down, recent fans will be familiar with their new hits such as California Wasted which continues to climb the charts. Even with a period of the band members weaving in and out of each other’s musical lives, the same creative curiosity that inspired the band to form in 1986 has brought them full circle to come back together again. They share in the kind of musical chemistry that can only come from meeting in high school and writing, recording and touring on albums over the course of those 25 years. [less-]

[less-]
