SUMMARY:Neverne Covington: Into the Mystic Opening Night
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: July 11th\, 5pm to 8pm \nContinuing a tradition at the Morean\, we are proud to present last year’s Margaret Murphy Steward Best of Show winner\, Neverne Covington. In addition to a cash prize\, the winning artist receives a solo show in our gallery to coincide with the following year’s members show. Neverne is the 14th artist to receive this opportunity. \nAbout Neverne: \nNeverne Covington’s drawings\, prints\, paintings and sculpture explore childhood\, language\, landscape\, memory\, and the gothic south. Her work has been exhibited at the Tampa Museum of Art\, the Brevard Museum of Art\, the State Capital\, the Florida Museum for Women Artists in Deland\, Florida and various venues throughout Florida\, Georgia and Alabama. \nShe recently returned from an artist residency at the VCCA Moulin a Nef in Auvillar\, France. Covington was born in Laurelton\, New York\, grew up in Florida\, and attended City & Guilds College in London\, England. She graduated from Eckerd College and has maintained her studio in downtown Saint Petersburg for three decades. \nArtist Statement: \nI use oil paint\, oil sticks and wax on canvas to create my work. I start with small intimate studies and expand to larger works\, often executing several paintings at the same time. I look for the dialogue as my paintings speak to one another. Using progressive layers and glazes\, some transparent\, some thick and opaque\, each brushstroke or mark becomes the topography of the surface. Each layer informs the next. \nDirect observation and immersion in the natural world\, informs my work and determines its themes: permanence\, impermanence\, and transience. My paintings discover the tangible and intangible forces that form matter from which our being and our very nature emerge. \nRhythm\, pattern\, and repetition dictate my process and the direction each work will take. The viscosity and consistency of the mediums enhance the work as I smear\, drag\, rub to create volume and form. The oil sticks\, paint\, and wax\, combined with the shimmering transparent glazes\, produce depth. The history of painting\, and my study of it\, informs each mark I make. \nPainting makes me pay attention. It entices me into the mystery of nature and the landscape of memory. It is a way of bringing order to the world I know and to the preconscious world of which I know so little. I am fascinated with what came before us\, with humankind’s relationship to our living\, breathing world. In my work I strive to reveal nature’s known\, unknown and unknowable entities. It is my humble hope that audience will respond to these resonances.

SUMMARY:L I V (I N) G Estuary: Artificial Oyster Pot Community Event & Exhibition Closing
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 27\, 2026\n3:30 PM 5:00 PM\nTully-Levine Gallery in the ArtsXchange (map)\nJoin Ashley Rivers | The Nature of Fire for the closing of her first Solo Exhibition:\n“L I V (I N) G Estuary” … a space between.\nAn art exhibition that – influenced directly by the oyster shell and its deep\, layered\, and detailed ridges – explores my personal experience with artistic growth\, environmental factors\, and materials/media experimentation over the years I have been practicing as a professional artist. \nThe Closing Reception & Artificial Oyster Pot Community Creation Event will be happening on June 27th from 3:30 PM–5:00 PM\, an afternoon of art\, small bites\, and good vibes. \nFacilitated by Non-Profit: Oyster River Ecology\, this is a fun\, unique\, family friendly\, and environmentally conscious art event where all can come and make artificial oyster pots that will be directly placed into our estuary! A community engagement event where participants/volunteers are actively involved in environmental restoration efforts! Come make one oyster pot or stay for the whole event and make 20+! \nAbout the Exhibition\nAn estuary is a point of convergence- it is the space between\, where freshwater rivers and salty ocean waters merge. This point\, where the union of different elements and organisms come together to meet at a single point- where adaption and growth occurs\, and the life of our special little oysters grows- indicates and symbolizes the very setting this exhibition is meant to be portrayed in. \nThrough repetition and active material experimentation\, these artworks investigate the intrinsic relationship between the natural systems and developments of an oyster and its shell\, and the symbolism of them compared to our human identity- specifically to my lived artistic experiences. The work explores my personal experience with artistic growth\, environmental factors\, and materials/media experimentation over the years I have been practicing as a professional artist. \nWorking with multiple mediums- including clays\, raw dyes and pigments\, natural fibers\, metals\, wood\, and hand-made papers and twines- the sculptures aim to share\, through textural and vulnerable forms\, that humans and nature share systematic parallels. \nThis collection is directly influenced by the oyster shell and its deep\, layered\, and detailed ridges. Created through a combination of growth\, environmental factors\, and the deposition of materials\, the ridges of the oyster shell act as a metaphor following my artistic identity and experiences lived. \nThe art is intended to achieve an inspiring and transformational impact on those who experience it by sharing the importance of not only restorative efforts of personal growth\, but the importance of restorative efforts on/for the environment. \nThis exhibition is the space between. \nSpecial thanks to the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance for awarding me the 2025 Individual Artist Grant to assist in making this projects happen!

SUMMARY:Watershed Stories
DESCRIPTION:Step into the sound of water. \nJoin us for a one-of-a-kind Watershed Stories Workshop\, a free\, three-hour immersive experience\, open to people of all ages\, where Tampa Bay becomes more than a place; it becomes something you can hear\, feel\, and express.\nJust drop in for a few minutes between 10 AM and 1 PM and experience the fun! \nThrough a collaboration with the USF Crescendo Project\, you’ll experience the changing waters of Tampa Bay translated into music—data transformed into sound\, science into sensation. SUMMARY:Peonies in Winter: The Long-awaited Works of Nate Jessup
DESCRIPTION:In the mid 1960s\, Nate Jessup earned two Ivy League art degrees\, fully intending to become a practicing professional artist. But the life of a New York gallery artist at the time seemed to him to be at odds with the very act of creating\, so he walked away\, earning his living by other means while he painted in relative obscurity to satisfy his own artistic vision. \nFans of abstract expressionism and the New York School will particularly enjoy this exhibition\, which includes dynamic abstracted figuration highly suggestive of Willem de Kooning\, exquisitely quiet color field works reminiscent of Clyfford Still\, and more. \nNow 83 and still actively painting\, Jessup’s first real gallery exhibition features an exquisite selection of masterful works that span decades of artistic expression and longing.

SUMMARY:Heighten Your Senses: A Cacao Ceremony\, Sound Bath & Art Immersive
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nA guided cacao ceremony and sound bath within a contemporary art exhibition—designed to deepen presence\, perception\, and sensory connection. \nOn the evening of the first quarter moon\, Browne Art invites you into a guided\, multi-sensory experience designed to heighten perception and deepen your connection to both self and artwork. \nPart 1: Cacao \nGuests will be welcomed into the gallery and invited to settle into a comfortable\, grounded position within the exhibition space. The experience will open with a ceremonial cacao offering led by Day Monet\, rooted in ancient Mesoamerican traditions where cacao has long been used to open the heart\, deepen awareness\, and support connection. \nCeremonial-grade cacao—rich in magnesium\, antioxidants\, and theobromine—provides a gentle\, sustained energy that encourages clarity\, presence\, and receptivity. Through intentional guidance\, breath\, and shared atmosphere\, the ceremony creates a space for inward connection while attuning to the collective field of the room. \nPart 2: Sound Bath \nAs the experience deepens\, lighting will soften and guests will be invited to recline. A live sound bath led by Kelly Nariyah will follow\, incorporating Neptune gong\, koshi chimes\, and singing bowls. Sound waves will move through the space\, shifting the experience from observation into embodiment—where the artwork is not only seen\, but felt. \nHeld within the context of a contemporary exhibition\, this immersive environment expands the traditional viewing experience\, inviting a slower\, more intuitive engagement with the work on view. \nPart 3: Art Exploration \nFollowing the sound bath\, lights will gradually rise and guests will have the opportunity to move through the gallery\, reflect\, and explore the exhibition by Francesco Agresti more deeply in conversation with curator Jovian Browne. \nWhat to bring 🧘🏻‍♂️\nPlease bring the following to support your comfort during the experience:\n– Yoga mat\n– Towel or blanket\n– Comfortable clothing\n– Pillow or cushion (optional) \nPlease arrive to the gallery 10 minutes early to give yourself time to settle in to your place. We will be locking the doors at 4:10PM afterwhich no one else will be permitted to enter the gallery.
