During ArtWalk on Saturday, October 14 at 5:30 p.m., Keep St Pete Lit and the Florida Holocaust Museum in downtown St. Petersburg will host an opening reception and performance inspired by the Museum’s new exhibition The Holocaust and the Book of Fire by Murray Zimiles.
Writers creating new work for this event include Peter Meinke, Bob Devin Jones, Sandra Gadsden, Cindy Stovall, Lisa Kirchner, Lisa Spencer and Bob Schwartz. Actor Fanni Green and dancer Paula Kramer are collaborating on a piece by Sheila Cowley.
The paintings, drawings, prints, and artist’s books by Murray Zimiles are graphic statements meant to engage and propel the viewer into a whirlwind of fire and devastation. Zimiles deals with the perceived absence of God and the absence of civilization during the Holocaust.
This is the first Ekphrastic collaboration between The Florida Holocaust Museum and Keep St Pete Lit, and a timely response to current events.
The event is free but reservations are encouraged. You can call 727.820.0100 x 301 to reserve a seat.
Complimentary refreshments will be served.
